To help stem the progression of the Novel Corona Virus Pandemic, on Friday, March 13th, 2020, Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state of Illinois, effective Tuesday, March 17th. This gave schools three days to decide how to move forward and prepare.
Working closely with the Everest Academy Board of Trustees, the School Administration, and Mary DeRoche, Everest Academy’s Principal, The Isidore Group, helped the school formulate a plan and embark on a journey that would launch this new program in just four days.
“As a Managed IT Service and Managed Security Service Provider, we don’t often respond to these kinds of viruses. I am proud of the way our team came together to help implement a solution and provide on-going support,” said Sebastian Abbinanti, President of The Isidore Group, an Everest Trustee and parent. “But what was truly remarkable was watching the Everest teachers come together and attack this challenge head-on. I have never seen a group so quickly adapt to this kind of change and face this challenge with excitement.”
Throughout the process, the school was committed to providing students with both a rich educational experience and a sense of normalcy. “This pandemic is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, but the impact it has on children cannot be understated,” Says Abbinanti. “We knew from the start that a pre-recorded video wasn’t going to cut it.”
Everest Academy’s E-Learning Program is not limited to the three Rs. In addition to traditional academics, students will continue participating in faith formation, Spanish, music, and even PE classes. Students continue daily prayers and also interact with Father Jason Huynh, Everest Academy’s Chaplin.
The Isidore Group hosted a video conference on Tuesday night with DeRoche, other members of the administration, and all the Everest Academy parents to introduce the platform, answer any questions, and help the parents understand what to expect.
“I have provided group tutorials online before, but interacting with Everest Academy parents, was different. At the end of our presentation, we opened it up for questions. Instead of questions, parents flooded the chat area with an expression of gratitude and relief. The Everest Academy Community is really a gem hiding out in plain sight,” said Abbinanti. “The impact this pandemic is having on our daily lives is clear. Watching Everest Academy focus on lessening the impact on its students and families, and listening to parents’ gratitude in response, inspires a renewed faith in humanity.”
